My friend, Daniel Roesler(Daniel Roesler <diafygi at gmail.com>), has a
startup in the SfunCube solar
accelerator, and he mentioned a contest that SfunCube is hosting:

Apparently, China's Hanergy bought a US thin film solar company and
are now throwing $600k in cash prizes out there for concept products
using thin film solar. SfunCube is handling the US promotion of the
contest, but it's been pretty low key so far for how much money it's
giving out.
