Steve, the system does work. However, it is very sensitive to atmospheric variations (which I assume means it can be used to detect variations???). That is why it is obsolete and why we don't use it. Someone donated a laser-based system that we use now.

I don't know if you'd find anyone interested in buying this machine at sudo room, but if you need to get rid of it we would definitely put the components to creative re-use.  Sensory deprivation chamber in the sound room, anyone???  Looks pretty awesome.
