[sudo-discuss] just got mugged and maced near sudo room

I had heard of police using Find My Phone before, though not OPD.  I was
pretty overjoyed when the one guy mentioned it.  I was not happy about
giving away my password, but that sort of comes with the territory when you
are functionally blind and hyperventilating...

...which for a second flashed in my mind as, "wow, what a racket that would
be -- get a kid to pepper spray someone with a smartphone, then con them
into giving you their password so you can harvest valuable data from the
stolen item."

But I am at least 90% certain the cops' glee at having access to my Apple
account was due to them now having a really sweet tracking device.

Indeed they seemed pretty upbeat through the whole thing.  I got the sense
that they *loved* the Find My Phone technology because it meant they could
make more arrests and "solve" crimes in the moment.

The superior officer kept admonishing me, when I asked what he was doing,
that this "wasn't like CSI".  I was 50% annoyed (I was just asking whether
they needed to hold on to my iPad for evidence) and 50% feeling sorry for
him, because I'm sure those shows have heavily informed how people now
interact with the police.
